Collection: The Summer Isles Collection

Inspired by the magical world of the Summer Isles and Wester Ross Marine Protected Area.

This collection started long before it was wax and wicks.

I first found a love for Maerl whilst studying my Masters at Heriot Watt University. I worked on Maerl beds up in Orkney, researching how deep the maerl beds were and their carbon sink properties.

The beautiful, coral-like algae forms fragile beds on the seabed here in Wester Ross. It's slow-growing, ancient, and home to thousands of tiny creatures. It's also part of why our waters are so special.

In 2019 I visited an illegally dredged maerl bed. What should have been vibrant and alive had been scarred. I went back every year since, to explore how or if it recovers.

That work became part of a published paper with Open Seas, but more than that, it became personal. You can't watch a habitat like that struggle and not want to help protect it.

The Summer Isles Collection is my way of giving back to the habitat I love.

Each candle is inspired by the Summer Isles and the Wester Ross Marine Protected Area and 5% of every product from this collection goes to Open Seas Charity - straight back to helping protect the MPA.
